From director Martin Scorsese, it's an Italian film with English subtitles, which seems to give it gritty realism ... mixed in with all the blood, guts, and glory. It also features nudity and violence, according to its 14A rating. And the Boston Herald called it the "greatest mafia movie ever made," although all the Godfather fans snickered at that one. A series of murderous home invasions in the sleepy town of Dead River, Maine alarms the former sheriff. The events are eerily similar to a bloody battle he'd fought and won with a wild and savage clan a decade ago. By hiding out in a forests and caves, the clan has managed to elude capture and survive. When the clan leader discovers a secluded home, she orders her followers to abduct the residents to assure the clan's survival. But the kidnapped women have survival instincts of their own. And the former sheriff has a score to settle, even if it kills him.
